The APA Zodiac is a celebration of hybrid identities. There are 12 animal signs in the Chinese Zodiac and 5 elements that shape who we are. Each astrological animal is mapped with elements of landscapes of the Americas, paying homage to the intricacies of heritage and who we are.
Inspired by stories and conversations with my Taiwanese mother about our family's history, our immigration, struggles with colonization and assimilation, and our future.
This is the Earth Dragon + Mountain-Prairie Border Regions.
Chinese Dragons don't have a fixed form and are an amalgamation of many different animals' features. They can shift in size and shape, which makes them capable of entering all types of environments. Since dragons themselves are hybrids, I decided to imagine what an APA dragon would look like that had suited itself to the North American landscape. The Earth Dragon has the head and body of a mountain lion, antlers and mane of an elk, and scales and tail of a bull snake.
Dragons are highly respected and known for their self-assuredness, high standards, and leadership. They can at times be impulsive and sensitive to criticism, but they are held in high regard by those around them.
Years of the Earth Dragon:
January 23, 1928 - February 9, 1929
February 17, 1988 - February 5, 1989
The Month of Dragon is March. The Hours of Dragon are 07:00 - 09:00 am.
