The AAPI (Asian Pacific Islander American) Zodiac explores hybrid identities, inspired by conversations with my Taiwanese mother. In the Chinese Zodiac, there are 12 animals and 5 elements that shape individuals’ identities. I reimagined the Zodiac animals as if they were informed by diaspora and landscapes of Turtle Island / North America.

The Earth Goat's image is based on the Mountain Goat, which lives in the northwestern region of North America. The Earth Goat's character is said to be kind-hearted, highly creative, family-centered, and loyal, with a strong sense of purpose and justice. I centered the Earth Goat's image on the wildflowers of Montana that can be found in places like Glacier National Park, a delicate biodiversity that depends both on our concerted efforts for conservation and also on human beings getting out of nature's way.
