Asian Diasporic Zodiac: Wood Boar
The Wood Boar is a part of my Asian Diasporic Zodiac, in which I reimagine the Zodiac animals as if they were informed by diaspora and the landscapes of Turtle Island / North America. This series is inspired by conversations with my Taiwanese mother.
The wood boar is my Agong's sign. He turned 91 last month, and it felt right to honor a relative at the start of my work during this residency.
To create this wood boar, I referenced the spruce trees and snow that line my short passage from my lodgings to the studio each day during my time at the Banff Centre’s Leighton Artist Studio residency.
