Asian Diasporic Zodiac: Water Tiger, Archival Print
The AAPI (Asian Pacific Islander American) Zodiac explores hybrid identities, inspired by conversations with my Taiwanese mother. In the Chinese Zodiac, there are 12 animals and 5 elements that shape individuals’ identities. I reimagined the Zodiac animals as if they were informed by diaspora and landscapes of Turtle Island / North America.
This is the Water Tiger + Pacific Ocean, an acknowledgement of the role of water as a passageway for migration.
Tigers are known for their confidence and capability. Coupled with the element of water, this is a go big or go home year, a time to take the risks we might normally shy away from. Water is difficult to contain so we should be mindful of distractions. But water is also often considered the most powerful element, because it retains its form in the face of all the other elements. The year of the Water Tiger is a time to plan well, overcome fears, and lean into our power.
